Two schemes help older Singaporeans with retirement. The Silver Support Scheme pays seniors aged 65 and above who had low incomes during their working years up to S$1,080 every quarter, depending on their flat type and household income. There’s no need to apply. The Majulah Package’s Earn and Save Bonus adds S$400 to S$1,000 a year to the CPF accounts of working Singaporeans born in 1973 or earlier who earn up to S$6,000 a month.
Quick facts
- Silver Support: citizens aged 65 and above, paid quarterly.
- Up to S$1,080 a quarter, in 1- and 2-room flats.
- Household income of up to S$2,300 per person.
- Total CPF contributions of no more than S$140,000 by age 55.
- Earn and Save Bonus: S$400 to S$1,000 a year, into CPF.
- Both are assessed automatically.
Who qualifies for Silver Support?
Singapore citizens aged 65 and above who meet all of these conditions: total CPF contributions of no more than S$140,000 by age 55 (or, for the self-employed, low average earnings between ages 45 and 54); living in a 5-room or smaller HDB flat; neither they nor their spouse owning a 5-room or larger flat, private property or more than one property; and household income of no more than S$2,300 a month per person.
How much is it?
| Flat type | Household income per person up to S$1,500 | S$1,501 to S$2,300 |
|---|---|---|
| 1- and 2-room | S$1,080 a quarter | S$540 |
| 3-room | S$860 | S$430 |
| 4-room | S$650 | S$325 |
| 5-room (living in, not owning) | S$430 | S$215 |
These amounts took effect in 2025, when payments rose by 20% and the income threshold rose from S$1,800. Payments start in the quarter you turn 65, and eligible seniors get a letter each December.
What’s the Earn and Save Bonus?
Part of the Majulah Package for Singaporeans born in 1973 or earlier. Those still working and earning up to S$6,000 a month get a yearly bonus in their CPF Special or Retirement Account, first paid in March 2025:
| Average monthly income | Yearly bonus |
|---|---|
| S$500 to S$2,500 | S$1,000 |
| Above S$2,500 to S$3,500 | S$700 |
| Above S$3,500 to S$6,000 | S$400 |
The WahLiao Verdict
If you look after an older parent, check their CPF statement and letters for Silver Support and the Earn and Save Bonus. Both are automatic, but it’s worth knowing what’s coming, and a household income just over the threshold can stop Silver Support entirely.
