Every recommendation on wahliao.com is made the same way, and this page is the promise. Time Out tells you what’s on. WahLiao tells you what’s worth it. For that sentence to mean anything, you need to know how the judging works and what could corrupt it, so here it is in full.
Four verbs
Went. Paid. Dated. Photographed. These are requirements for a first-hand WahLiao Verdict, not a claim that every existing page has passed them. Such a review must identify the visit date, reviewer and basis for the bill, with retained evidence. A researched explainer, historical article or illustrative budget must be labelled according to its actual evidence and must not imply personal attendance or payment.
Know what kind of evidence you are reading
Clarification issued 29 September 2026. A useful guide does not have to be a personal review, but it must not pretend to be one. The following labels apply to the pages released or revised under the current upgrade. Adding this method does not certify that every older page has been classified or rechecked.
| Label | What supports it | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Researched guide | Identified official or operator sources, a source-check date, attributed facts and clearly separated editorial interpretation. | Personal attendance, a paid bill, a test, a measured queue or a firsthand judgement of service. |
| First-hand review | A named reviewer, dated observations, the relevant payment or admission record, and photographs or notes supporting the experience described. | A promise that a later visit will be identical, or a claim that unvisited alternatives were personally tested. |
| Measured comparison | A defined sample, dates, units, quantities, inclusions, calculation method and retained observations or quotations. | An island-wide cheapest or best result when only a limited sample was checked. Asking prices are not completed transactions. |
| Historical reference | Attributed records, maps, institutional histories or oral accounts, with uncertain dates and competing interpretations identified. | Current opening, availability or admission rules. A historical source is not a present-day visitor check. |
A page can contain more than one evidence type. In that case, label the relevant sections: a personally visited venue may sit beside a researched alternative, and a documented price may sit beside an illustrative household budget. Keep those distinctions visible. A missing source is a reason to check or qualify a claim, not a reason to manufacture a receipt, quotation, reviewer or visit.
Four dates that must not be confused
The publication date records when the article became public. The modification date records an edit. The source-effective date identifies the period or rule a source describes. The source-check or visit date records what was actually checked and when. Correcting a link or adding a paragraph does not make every price on the page newly verified. An announcement about a future opening must remain an announcement until the opening is confirmed.
Prices, budgets and comparisons
A price needs a currency, unit, applicable party or ticket category, date and material conditions. Separate compulsory charges from optional spending. A sample budget must say that its figures are assumptions rather than a bill we paid. A comparison must use comparable quantities and inclusions; differences in sample, date, eligibility or product must not be hidden inside a ranking.
Refresh and correction rules
Check volatile claims when the relevant rule, operator notice, price list or edition changes, and before a time-sensitive recommendation is reused. Show the period covered by an events list. Treat a closure notice as more important than an older standing timetable. When verification is incomplete, state the gap at the claim rather than displaying a fresh date over unchanged material. Substantive corrections identify what changed; historical material remains at its established address.
The first-hand Verdict format below remains reserved for an evidenced experience. Researched guides instead use a practical decision summary. Sources and contextual reading links may exceed three when necessary for verification; that is not permission for unrelated links or duplicate articles. Release records belong in the existing Masterplan, with routes maintained in Site Architecture.
The Verdict
| Cost | What we paid, for how many people, on what date, with service and GST stated. |
| What you get | The plate, room, product or experience as delivered, in the order you meet it. |
| The alternative | The cheaper, better or nearer option we would send a friend to, with its price. |
| Worth it for | The occasion, company and budget it suits. |
| Skip it if | The reader for whom this is money badly spent. |
| Last verified | The date, and who checked. Re-verified within twelve months or marked as ageing. |
| Disclosure | None, affiliate, sponsored or partner. Never blank, and shown in the sentence, not the footer. |
What we never sell
A ranking. A verdict. A place on a list. A badge a venue can display. The subscriber list. Reader data. Silence about a place we found wanting. Revenue never ranks: nothing anyone pays us changes a verdict, a position or a page. Sponsored pieces are labelled at the top. Affiliate links point only to products we would hold or book ourselves, and never rank one above a better non-affiliate option.
Money pages
The Ledger explains; it does not advise. Every figure is traced to the Monetary Authority of Singapore, the CPF Board, IRAS or the product page of the bank itself, with the date we checked. WahLiao is not a licensed financial adviser and no page tells you what to buy. Where licensed advice is needed, the page says where it lives.
Right of reply and corrections
A first-hand verdict must concern an evidenced experience on a stated date. A researched assessment must identify its sources and separate facts from interpretation. Neither should impute motive. A business discussed negatively may reply. Corrections should identify the changed claim and date; retain existing addresses and mark historical material clearly.
The voice
No exclamation marks; the name already contains one. No hidden gems, must-tries or ultimate guides. No superlative without a bill beside it. No price without a date. Say what it is, say what it costs, say whether to go.
The full method is in the WahLiao White Paper; the plan it serves is The WahLiao Masterplan. Last updated 26 September 2026.
