Self-storage in Singapore costs roughly $50 to $120 a month for a locker of 12 to 20 sq ft, $120 to $250 for a small unit (20 to 50 sq ft) and $250 to $400 for a medium unit (50 to 100 sq ft), enough for the furniture of a 2- to 3-bedroom HDB flat, according to a September 2026 market price guide. Central locations can cost 10% to 20% more than outer ones, and committing for six months or more typically saves 10% to 20%. Contracts vary: some providers run month-to-month with no deposit, while others ask for a minimum term, a deposit of up to two months’ rent and a one-off admin fee. Always read the notice period before you sign.

Renovating, moving, or simply out of cupboard space? A storage unit can be a lifesaver, if you pick the right size and the right contract.

A worked example: storing a flat during renovation

A couple renovating a 3-room HDB flat needs a medium unit for four months. At $300 a month, within the medium range:

  1. Four months’ rent: 4 × $300 = $1,200.
  2. With a first-month-half-price promotion: $150 + 3 × $300 = $1,050.
  3. Add any deposit (refundable) and admin fee, plus the cost of moving in and out.

Choosing an outer facility that is 15% cheaper, at $255 a month, would bring four months’ rent down to $1,020 before promotions.

The WahLiao Verdict

Measure what you will store, then book the smallest unit that fits it with a little room to reach the back. For short needs, pick month-to-month with a short notice period; for six months or more, ask for the committed-term rate. Check the price after any promotion, check what your home insurance already covers, and never store anything you would be heartbroken to lose without photographing it first.

Questions people ask

Is there a minimum rental period?

It depends on the provider. Some run month-to-month; others ask for one to six months.

Do I need insurance for a storage unit?

Some providers make it optional and some require it. Check whether your home contents policy covers items in off-site storage first.

Are air-conditioned units worth it?

For wooden furniture, leather, documents and electronics, climate-controlled storage helps against Singapore’s humidity. Ask whether a unit is air-conditioned before you compare prices.

What can’t I store?

Each provider sets its own list, which commonly rules out hazardous, perishable and illegal items. Read it before you pack.
