A good mattress in Singapore does not have to cost the earth. As of mid-2026, budget bed-in-a-box queens sit under about S$600, a solid value-band queen costs roughly S$700 to S$1,300, and premium imported brands start near S$2,000 and climb well past that. The four main types are pocketed spring, foam, latex and hybrid. Many online brands offer a home sleep trial of 100 to 200 nights with a refund if it does not suit you; Origin, for example, states up to 120 nights with free pickup. Showroom brands usually do not. Plan to keep a mattress about 7 to 10 years, so judge it by cost per year, not sticker price.
You will spend about a third of your life on this thing, so a little homework pays back every single night. Here is how to choose well and pay sensibly.
Quick facts
- Standard Singapore widths: single 91cm, super single 107cm, queen 152cm, king 183cm; length usually 190cm.
- Main types: pocketed spring, foam (including memory foam), latex, and hybrid (springs plus foam or latex).
- Value-band queen: roughly S$700 to S$1,300 (mid-2026 snapshot).
- Home trials of 100 to 200 nights are common for online brands; showroom purchases usually have no comfort trial.
- A trial is a store promise; the Lemon Law covers defects, not comfort.
- Expect 7 to 10 years of use from a decent mattress.
Which type suits you?
Firmness is personal, but the materials behave in predictable ways. In Singapore’s heat, how warm a mattress sleeps matters as much as how it feels.
| Type | How it feels | Good for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pocketed spring | Bouncy, airy, individually wrapped coils | Hot sleepers, couples who want less motion transfer than old open-coil beds | Cheaper builds can sag at the edges |
| Foam / memory foam | Hugging, quiet, absorbs movement | Side sleepers, light sleepers sharing a bed | Can trap heat; look for cooling layers |
| Latex | Springy, responsive, durable | Those who want support without sinking | Heavier and often pricier; check if natural or blended |
| Hybrid | Coil base with foam or latex on top | Most people who want a balance of bounce and comfort | Weight and thickness; check your bed frame |
What a good one costs
Prices swing hard with promotions, and many brands show a struck-through “usual price” that is rarely charged. These bands reflect queen-size prices seen in mid-2026; check the brand’s own site on the day you buy.
| Band | Typical queen price | What you usually get |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | Under about S$600 | Bed-in-a-box foam or basic hybrid; fine for guest rooms or short stays |
| Value | About S$700 to S$1,300 | Online hybrids with long trials and long warranties |
| Premium | From about S$2,000, past S$10,000 at the top | Showroom brands, zoned springs, specialist foams |
Worked example: cost per year
- S$799 hybrid kept 10 years = about S$80 a year.
- S$1,299 hybrid kept 8 years = about S$162 a year.
- S$350 budget foam that sags after 3 years = about S$117 a year, plus the hassle of buying again.
The cheapest sticker is not always the cheapest sleep.
How sleep trials work
A trial lets you sleep on the mattress at home and send it back if it does not suit you. Your body may take two to four weeks to adjust to a new mattress, so do not decide on night three. Before paying, check these points in the brand’s terms:
- Length and start date. Origin’s trial, for instance, runs up to 120 nights from the night of delivery.
- Minimum nights. Some brands ask you to keep it a set period before returning.
- Refund and fees. Is it a full refund, and is pickup free? Are promo or clearance items excluded?
- Condition. Most require the mattress to be clean and unstained; use a protector from day one.
- One trial per household. Some limit how many trials you can use.
Showroom and department-store purchases usually come with no comfort trial at all. Lie on the bed in your normal sleeping position for at least ten minutes before you buy.
Before the delivery van arrives
- Measure your bed frame: a 152cm queen will not fit a frame built for a different standard.
- Check thickness against your fitted sheets and frame height.
- Ask whether old-mattress disposal is included or charged.
- Rolled bed-in-a-box mattresses fit through any HDB lift; full-size showroom beds may need careful handling.
- Keep the receipt, warranty card and law tag; warranties usually cover sagging beyond a stated depth, not normal softening.
The WahLiao Verdict
For most households, a value-band hybrid with a long home trial is the sweet spot: around S$700 to S$1,300 for a queen, with the right to send it back if your back disagrees. Pay premium prices only if you have tried that exact model and loved it. Read the trial terms before you pay, put a protector on immediately, and give your body a few weeks to settle before you judge.
Questions people ask
Is a firmer mattress better for my back?
Not automatically. The aim is a spine that stays level; side sleepers usually need more give at the shoulders and hips than back sleepers. A trial is the best test.
Can I return a mattress I bought in a shop?
Only if the shop’s own policy allows it. Singapore’s Lemon Law gives remedies for goods that are defective, not for a change of mind about comfort.
Are those big “usual price” discounts real?
Treat them with care. Compare the price you would pay today across brands rather than the size of the discount.
How often should I replace a mattress?
Roughly every 7 to 10 years, or sooner if it sags visibly, you wake stiff, or you sleep better in hotel beds.
