If your home has piped town gas, its price is set every quarter by City Energy under guidelines from the Energy Market Authority (EMA). From July to September 2026, the household tariff was 23.48 cents per kWh before GST, or about 25.6 cents with GST: up 7.1% on the previous quarter and, EMA said, the highest to date. Like electricity, the tariff follows fuel prices with a lag, because it’s based on prices in the first two and a half months of the quarter before. The October to December tariff is announced at the end of September.

Why does the price lag?
Because each quarter’s tariff uses average fuel prices from the first two and a half months of the quarter before. So when fuel prices jumped after the Middle East conflict began at the end of February 2026, only part of the rise showed up in April to June, and the full effect arrived in July to September. The same lag works in reverse: if fuel prices fall, the tariff follows a quarter later.
How much gas does a household use?
Far less than electricity, since gas is mostly used for cooking and sometimes hot water. Your bill shows your use in kWh; multiply it by the tariff to see what the quarter’s rise means for you. For example, 50 kWh a month at 23.48 cents costs S$11.74 before GST.

For most households, gas is the smallest line on the utilities bill, so a 7% rise costs a dollar or two a month. If you’re replacing a water heater, compare the running cost of gas against an efficient electric or heat-pump model rather than the price tag alone.

Piped town gas for households comes from City Energy at the regulated tariff; there’s no open market for it as there is for electricity.

What about bottled gas?
Cylinder (LPG) prices are set by the retailers that sell them, not by this tariff.
