Under Health Sciences Authority (HSA) rules, you can bring up to three months’ supply of personal medication into Singapore without approval, as long as it contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Anything with a controlled or psychotropic ingredient needs HSA approval, applied for at least two weeks before you arrive. Carry the medication in its original labelled packaging with a copy of the prescription or a doctor’s letter. More than three months’ supply isn’t allowed without approval, and you can only carry medication for yourself or immediate family.

When do I need approval?
HSA says you don’t need approval if you bring less than three months’ supply and the medication contains no controlled drugs, psychotropic substances or prohibited items. Otherwise, you do. It’s your responsibility to check the active ingredients against HSA’s lists before travelling. Prohibited items, such as cannabis, aren’t allowed at any time, even in transit.
How do I apply?
Online, at least two weeks before arrival. You’ll need clear images of the pharmacy dispensing labels or doctor’s prescription, showing the patient, prescriber, medicine name, strength, dosage and quantity, and photos of the product showing its name, active ingredients and strength.
What about the country I’m visiting?
Its rules apply there, and they can be stricter than Singapore’s; some medicines sold freely here are controlled elsewhere. Check with the destination’s embassy before you travel, especially for strong painkillers, sleeping pills, ADHD medication or anything containing codeine.
