Christmas Day 2026 falls on Friday 25 December, a public holiday, so Singapore gets a three-day weekend from Friday to Sunday. The centrepiece of the season is Christmas on A Great Street, the Orchard Road light-up, which is free to walk. In 2025 it switched on on Saturday 8 November and ran 55 days to 1 January, along a 3.1km stretch from Tanglin to Dhoby Ghaut. Visit Singapore lists a 2026 edition, but as of October 2026 the organisers had not published the 2026 dates, so check christmas.orchardroad.org. What costs money: the Christmas villages’ rides, games and food, and Gardens by the Bay’s ticketed Christmas Wonderland, which charged from $9 per adult in 2025.

The happy news is that the best part of a Singapore Christmas, a warm evening stroll under the lights, costs nothing at all. Here is how to plan the season, and where your wallet comes in.

Quick facts

  • Christmas Day 2026: Friday 25 December, a public holiday. Christmas Eve is a Thursday and not a public holiday.
  • Orchard Road light-up: free to view from the street; the 2025 edition ran 8 November 2025 to 1 January 2026.
  • Recent switch-on dates fell on a Saturday in early-to-mid November (9 November 2024, 8 November 2025).
  • Christmas villages: in 2025, one outside Ngee Ann City and one at Shaw House; rides, games and food are paid.
  • Gardens by the Bay Christmas Wonderland: ticketed, from $9 adult and $7 child (3 to 12) in 2025.
  • Official 2026 details: christmas.orchardroad.org and gardensbythebay.com.sg.

When does Orchard Road light up for Christmas 2026?

The Orchard Road Business Association runs Christmas on A Great Street each year. The official site still showed the 2025 edition when we checked in October 2026, and no 2026 switch-on date had been announced. Recent years point to a Saturday in early-to-mid November, with the lights staying on until New Year’s Day.

What is free at Christmas in Singapore

Plenty. Using the 2025 season as the template, these cost nothing to enjoy:

  • The Orchard Road light-up. The full 3.1km route from Tanglin to Dhoby Ghaut runs along a public street. In 2025 it used a rose gold, gold and silvery white theme.
  • The projection show. In 2025 a 3D projection-mapping show played on the façade of Hilton Singapore Orchard, viewable from the street.
  • The village atmosphere. In 2025 one village stood outside Ngee Ann City, with a 14-metre tree, nightly “snowfall” and weekend evening performances; a second, gentler one for young children stood at Shaw House. Rides, games and food were paid; check the official site for any entry rules this year.
  • The Christmas Eve street party. In 2025 a stretch of Orchard Road closed to traffic for music, mascots, food trucks and a countdown, out on the public road; the food trucks, of course, charge.
  • Garden Rhapsody at Gardens by the Bay. During Christmas Wonderland in 2025, the light-and-music show could still be watched for free from outside the ticketed grounds, at the World of Plants.

What costs money, and how much

At Gardens by the Bay in 2025, children under three did not need a ticket (up to two per adult), and the OCBC Skyway sat outside the Christmas Wonderland grounds.

A worked example: a family evening for four

Two adults and two children aged 5 and 8, using the 2025 starting prices for Christmas Wonderland:

  1. Walk the Orchard Road lights from Dhoby Ghaut towards Ngee Ann City: $0.
  2. Christmas Wonderland tickets: 2 × $9 + 2 × $7 = $32 at the lowest published rate.
  3. Add village rides, a snack each and your MRT fares on top. These vary, so set a firm budget before the children spot the claw machines.

Skip Christmas Wonderland and watch Garden Rhapsody from outside instead, and the core evening is free.

The WahLiao Verdict

Walk Orchard Road on a weekday evening, when the lights are up and the pavements are calmer than at weekends, and save the paid extras for one special night. Christmas Day is a Friday this year, so a long weekend is already yours. If you want Christmas Wonderland, pick your date early and buy online, because in 2025 bundle prices varied by date and by whether you bought in advance. Watch christmas.orchardroad.org for the 2026 switch-on date before you promise the family anything.
