Singapore passport holders need a visa for Egypt, but it is easy to get. MFA says a single-entry, 30-day tourist visa is available on arrival at Egyptian airports for US$30. You can also apply online through the official portal, visa2egypt.gov.eg, at least seven days before departure; in April 2026 the portal was reported to list the single-entry tourist e-Visa at US$30 and multiple entry at US$65. The visa is the small cost. Site tickets are the real budget line: foreign adults pay roughly EGP 500 to 750 for major temples and tombs, and around EGP 1,450 for the Grand Egyptian Museum, as reported in 2026. Many sites prefer cards.
Egypt is the trip that makes history lessons suddenly make sense. Sort the visa in ten minutes, then put your planning time into the tickets and timings, where it pays off.
Quick facts

e-Visa or visa on arrival?
| Option | Cost | Best for | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Visa on arrival | US$30 (MFA) | Single trips by air | Single entry, 30 days; carry clean US dollar notes |
| e-Visa, single entry | US$30 (reported April 2026) | Peace of mind before you fly | Apply at least 7 days ahead; pay by card |
| e-Visa, multiple entry | US$65 (reported April 2026) | Trips that leave Egypt and come back | Same portal; check MFA advisories for any side-trip country |
Egypt raised its tourist visa fees in early 2026, so older blog posts quoting US$25 are out of date. Use only the official portal; MFA does not state a passport validity rule, so check with the Egyptian Embassy in Singapore or your airline.
Applying online, step by step
- At least seven days before departure, sign up at visa2egypt.gov.eg with your email.
- Complete the application and upload the documents requested.
- Pay by Visa, Mastercard or another debit card.
- Watch your email for the status, then print or save the approved e-Visa for arrival.
Site entry fees for foreigners
Egypt charges foreigners separate, higher prices, and revises them often. The figures below come from travel guides updated in 2025 and 2026 and drawing on the antiquities ministry’s ticket listings; confirm on egymonuments.com before you go.
| Site | Foreign adult ticket (reported) |
|---|---|
| Grand Egyptian Museum, Giza | EGP 1,450 (students and children with ID: EGP 730) |
| Giza Pyramids plateau | About EGP 700 (extra to go inside the Great Pyramid) |
| Valley of the Kings, Luxor | EGP 750 (some tombs extra) |
| Abu Simbel | EGP 750 |
| Karnak Temple, Luxor | EGP 600 |
| Philae Temple, Aswan | EGP 550 |
| Luxor Temple | EGP 500 |
Worked example: four big tickets
Grand Egyptian Museum (EGP 1,450) plus the Giza plateau (about EGP 700), Valley of the Kings (EGP 750) and Karnak (EGP 600) comes to EGP 3,500 per adult, before guides, inner tombs or the Great Pyramid’s interior. A student with an accepted ID card saves noticeably at the museum and, reportedly, at many other sites. Add your US$30 visa and you have the core of the sightseeing bill.
Money, safety and the law
- Money: carry a card for ticket offices and some US dollars or euros to change; Singapore dollars are not accepted.
- Where not to go: MFA advises reconsidering non-essential travel to North Sinai, the northern part of South Sinai beyond the St Catherine-Nuweibaa road and eastern Ismailiyah, and avoiding the Libya and Sudan border areas.
- Petty crime and scams: pickpocketing and tourist scams are the most common problems; sexual harassment is widespread, and the tourist police are on 126.
- Photography: never photograph military sites, government buildings, embassies or the Suez Canal; drones need permission.
- Antiquities: exporting items over 100 years old needs a licence.
- Alcohol: only in licensed venues, never on the street.
The WahLiao Verdict
Get the e-Visa online a week or more before you fly; it costs the same as the arrival visa and removes one queue from a long travel day. Then budget properly for tickets, which will cost you several times the visa, and carry a card that waives foreign currency fees. See the Grand Egyptian Museum before the pyramids so the plateau makes sense when you stand on it.
