There are 11 gazetted public holidays in 2027. Monday 8 February is also a public holiday because the second day of Chinese New Year falls on Sunday. This does not create a universal entitlement to 12 extra days off. Three holiday dates fall on Saturday: 6 February, 1 May and 25 December. For a Monday-to-Friday worker, five holiday weekends require no annual leave; taking 18, 19 and 21 May off can create a nine-day break.

Monday 8 February is on the national list. Saturday 6 February, 1 May and 25 December require a separate check of your work arrangement. A Saturday holiday does not automatically make the following Monday a public holiday.

These are leave-planning options, not a fare ranking. A four-day break using one leave day and a nine-day break using three leave days serve different needs. All calculations assume weekends off and approved annual leave.

Saturday holidays: Chinese New Year, Labour Day and Christmas
For employees covered by the Employment Act, a holiday on a non-working day brings another day off or extra salary at the gross rate. A holiday on a rest day moves to the following working day. Saturday and Sunday commonly have these different roles in a five-day week. Confirm your arrangement for all three Saturday dates; do not assume a Monday replacement. Check the school calendar separately
A school holiday is not automatically a public holiday for working parents. Check MOE’s calendar for the correct year and school type, and check your school’s own notices. This review has not independently confirmed the previously stated 2027 school closure dates or year-end vacation dates; they should not be used to book travel.
