Install four apps before you fly to Singapore: MyICA Mobile to file your SG Arrival Card, a ride-hailing app such as Grab with your card already added, Google Maps for trains and buses, and the Changi App for your flights. Add myENV for rain and haze alerts, and MuslimSG if you need prayer times and halal food. Everything else can wait until you land.
Singapore is a city that runs on phones: payments, rides, queues and even restaurant tables. You do not need many apps, but the right few, set up at home on your own Wi-Fi, will save you twenty minutes at every step of your first day.

Before you fly
MyICA Mobile. The official app from the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority files your SG Arrival Card for free in the three days before you arrive. You can also use the ICA website. Never pay a third-party site. Our SG Arrival Card guide walks through it.
Grab. Southeast Asia’s largest ride-hailing app shows the fare before you book, which removes the guesswork of your first taxi. Add your payment card at home, because some banks send a verification code by text that is harder to receive abroad.
Google Maps. It handles Singapore’s trains and buses well, including live bus arrival times. Download the Singapore map for offline use in case your data is slow on arrival.
Changi App. Changi Airport’s own app tracks flights, maps the terminals and Jewel, and lets you book the flat-fare Ground Transport Concierge car.
Once you land
myENV. The National Environment Agency’s app gives forecasts, rain alerts and air quality readings, useful in the wet months and in a haze year.

What you do not need
You do not need a transport app to ride the MRT: tap your contactless card at the gantry. You do not need a translation app: English is spoken everywhere. And you do not need any app that charges you for government forms.
