The Ministry of Education’s 2027 calendar for primary and secondary schools starts on Monday 4 January. There are four breaks: one week in March (13 to 21 March), four weeks in June (29 May to 27 June), one week in September (4 to 12 September), and the year-end holidays from 20 November to 31 December. On top of those, there are school-only days off for Youth Day, the day after National Day, Teachers’ Day and, for primary schools, Children’s Day.

Whether you’re a parent planning a family trip, a grandparent offering to babysit or a tutor setting next year’s timetable, here’s the whole year on one page.

Two happy long breaks follow: National Day on Monday 9 August plus the school holiday on Tuesday 10 August makes a four-day weekend for families, and Teachers’ Day on Friday 3 September runs straight into the September holidays.

When do public holidays fall in term time?

Schools also close on every public holiday. In 2027, Hari Raya Puasa (Wednesday 10 March) and Good Friday (26 March) fall in term, while Hari Raya Haji (Monday 17 May) and Vesak Day (Thursday 20 May) land just before the June holidays. See our full list of 2027 public holidays.

The WahLiao Verdict

The June holidays start right after a busy May, so a family trip from Saturday 29 May is the year’s easiest big escape, and it’ll also be the year’s priciest week to fly. If you can, travel in the second or third week of June instead, when fares usually ease. And mark 10 August: it’s the four-day National Day weekend most families forget to plan.

Questions people ask

Do junior colleges follow the same dates?

Not exactly. JCs and Millennia Institute have their own term calendar; check MOE’s website or your school.

Do preschools close during school holidays?

Most childcare centres stay open year-round apart from public holidays and a few closure days; kindergartens may follow a term calendar. Ask your centre.

Can my child miss school for a trip?

Schools expect families to travel during holidays. Absences in term time need the school’s approval and can mean missed lessons or tests.

Where are the official dates?

On the MOE website, in its press release on school terms and holidays for 2027.
