Supermarket loyalty programmes in Singapore are worth having and not worth chasing. FairPrice’s Linkpoints are earned by NTUC Union and Link members, in store and online, and redeem at about a cent a point. The yuu app, still accepted at Cold Storage and Giant after their 2025 change of owner, gives one point per dollar, and every 200 points is worth $1 off a later bill, or half a cent a point. A card linked to either scheme can add considerably more.
On their own, the free schemes return about half a per cent to one per cent of what you spend; linked cards can raise that, within their caps and conditions. That is pleasant, and it is less than one bad promotion, one wasted bag of spinach or one wrong supermarket choice costs you. Collect the points; never let them decide where you shop.
Supermarket loyalty programmes: quick facts
| FairPrice Linkpoints | Earned by NTUC Union and Link members at FairPrice, Finest, Xtra and FairPrice Online |
| Linkpoints value | Redemptions have been offered from 99 Linkpoints for $0.99, or about one cent a point |
| yuu app | $1 = 1 yuu Point; 200 points = $1 off, so about half a cent a point; points valid two years |
| yuu at Cold Storage and Giant | Still a yuu partner as of September 2026, after the 2025 sale to Macrovalue; scan your yuu ID at checkout |
| Linked cards | yuu advertises up to 36 times the points (18 per cent in rebates) with the DBS yuu Card and up to 18 times (9 per cent) with the PAssion POSB Debit Card, subject to terms |
| Stacking | Points usually stack with discount days, CDC vouchers and card rewards; check each chain’s rules |
| Rule of thumb | Free points are worth about half a per cent to one per cent. Price, waste and the right day are worth far more |
The WahLiao Verdict
| Cost | Free to join; the real cost is any extra spending the programme persuades you into. |
| What you get | About half a per cent to one per cent back on groceries before card boosts, occasional member deals, and vouchers. |
| The alternative | Shopping purely on price and ignoring points, which costs you only that half to one per cent. |
| Worth it for | Anyone who shops at the same chain every week; NTUC Union members in particular. |
| Skip it if | A scheme would pull you to a dearer supermarket, or into spending to reach a threshold. |

How do FairPrice Linkpoints work?
Linkpoints are FairPrice Group’s loyalty currency. NTUC Union members and Link members earn them on purchases at FairPrice supermarkets, FairPrice Finest, FairPrice Xtra and FairPrice Online, and FairPrice says seniors and Pioneer and Merdeka Generation shoppers who are members earn them on top of their discount-day savings. Scan your membership in the FairPrice Group app or at the till every time.
They can be redeemed for rewards and vouchers, and FairPrice has advertised redemptions from 99 Linkpoints for $0.99, which puts their value at about a cent a point. FairPrice Group said it returned more than $25 million to customers and members in 2025 through Linkpoints redemptions and its discount schemes combined.
For NTUC Union members, Linkpoints sit beside other member benefits such as member deals and, historically, annual rebates. If you already pay union dues, the grocery benefits are part of what you are paying for; use them.
How does the yuu app work?
yuu is a multi-brand rewards programme launched in 2022, backed by Temasek’s venture builder minden.ai with Dairy Farm International, which then owned Cold Storage, Giant and 7-Eleven. Members earn one yuu Point for every dollar spent at more than 1,000 places, including Cold Storage, CS Fresh, Giant, Guardian and 7-Eleven. Every 200 points is worth $1 off a later bill, which makes a point worth half a cent: the free app on its own returns about 0.5 per cent. Points last two years, and you need at least 200 to pay with points.
Linking a card multiplies the points. yuu advertises up to 36 times the points, equal to 18 per cent in rebates, with the DBS yuu Card, and up to 18 times, or 9 per cent, with the PAssion POSB Debit Card. Those headline rates depend on boosters, caps and conditions, so read the current terms before you count on them. Bank partners also run periodic grocery vouchers for cardholders at Cold Storage and Giant, with their own rules, such as paying at a staffed counter rather than self-checkout.
Cold Storage and Giant were sold to Macrovalue in a deal announced in March 2025, while DFI kept 7-Eleven and Guardian. As of September 2026, yuu still lists Cold Storage and Giant among its in-store partners, and members earn points there by scanning their yuu ID at the start of checkout.
What about Sheng Siong and the neighbourhood chains?
Sheng Siong’s offer to shoppers rests mainly on everyday prices, a large range of its own brands and its senior discount days rather than on a headline points programme. Smaller chains vary. For all of them, the savings that matter are the ones on the shelf and on the senior or voucher days, set out in senior citizen discounts at Singapore supermarkets.
How much are supermarket points really worth?
Work out two numbers: how many points you earn per dollar, and what a point buys when you redeem it. Multiply them.
| Earn rate | Value per point | What you get back |
|---|---|---|
| 1 point per $1 | 1 cent (Linkpoints’ advertised value) | 1 per cent |
| 1 point per $1 | 0.5 cents (yuu: 200 points = $1) | 0.5 per cent |
| 10 points per $1 (a yuu booster) | 0.5 cents | 5 per cent |
The yuu point value and booster equivalence are yuu’s published figures; the Linkpoints earn rate is illustrative. Check the current rates in each app before relying on them.
On a $150 weekly shop, half a per cent to one per cent is 75 cents to $1.50 a week, or about $39 to $78 a year. That is worth collecting. It is also less than the saving from a single category switched to a house brand, and far less than what a household throws away in food each year.
When does a loyalty programme cost you money?
- When it keeps you at a dearer supermarket. Half a per cent back does not cover a basket that is several per cent more expensive.
- When it sets a spending threshold. “Spend $80, get $10” is only a saving if you would have spent $80 anyway.
- When points expire unused. yuu points last two years; set a reminder to redeem.
- When it steers you into a card you would not otherwise hold. Card rewards help only if you pay the bill in full each month.
How to stack points with other savings
Points generally sit on top of the other savings rather than replacing them. A FairPrice shopper might combine a senior discount day, CDC supermarket vouchers for part of the bill, Linkpoints on the purchase and a card that rewards groceries, each worth a few per cent. Whether a specific combination is allowed is each chain’s rule, so ask once at customer service. The full weekly system is in how to save money on groceries in Singapore.

About one cent. FairPrice has advertised rewards redeemable from 99 Linkpoints for $0.99.
How much is one yuu point worth?
Half a cent. Every 200 yuu Points is worth $1 off a future bill, so the free app returns about 0.5 per cent before any card or booster.
Who can earn Linkpoints at FairPrice?

Can I still use yuu at Cold Storage and Giant?

Do supermarket points stack with senior discounts and CDC vouchers?
Generally yes; FairPrice says members earn Linkpoints on top of their discount-day savings. Each chain sets its own rules for specific combinations.
Are supermarket loyalty programmes worth it?
Yes, if you already shop at that chain; the free schemes return about half a per cent to one per cent before card boosts. No, if they draw you to a dearer shop or into extra spending.

Correction, 28 September 2026: an earlier version of this page valued yuu Points at about one cent each and described Cold Storage and Giant’s participation in yuu as unconfirmed. yuu Points are worth half a cent each (200 points = $1), and yuu is still accepted at Cold Storage and Giant.
