On a short business trip to Singapore, you can attend meetings, conferences, training courses and trade exhibitions on an ordinary visit pass, with no work pass and no notification. If you are speaking, training or exhibiting, the rules change: you must notify the Ministry of Manpower before you start, or hold a work pass. Stay near Raffles Place or Marina Bay, and wear a shirt without a tie.
Singapore runs on meetings, and it makes them easy: short distances, reliable trains, fast Wi-Fi and a punctual business culture. The things that catch visiting executives out are the entry rules for speakers, the midday heat between buildings, and the taxi queues in the CBD at six o’clock.

What you can do on a visit pass
The Ministry of Manpower lets business visitors attend company meetings, corporate retreats and meetings with business partners, attend training courses, workshops, seminars and conferences as participants, and visit exhibitions as trade visitors, without notifying MOM, as long as there is no contract of service with a Singapore employer.
Speaking at a seminar, running a training course or exhibiting at a trade show is different. You must be engaged before you arrive, hold a valid visit pass, and notify MOM before you start, under the Work Pass Exemption, which allows up to 90 days a year in total. Some roles need a Miscellaneous Work Pass instead, and on-the-job training needs a full work pass. Check MOM’s list before you fly.

Raffles Place and Tanjong Pagar put you in the heart of the CBD, with Lau Pa Sat and Amoy Street Food Centre for lunch. Getting to meetings
The MRT is the fastest way across the CBD in the rush hours, and underground links connect many stations to office towers and malls. Taxis and ride-hailing are plentiful, but queues at CBD taxi stands can be long after 6pm, so book in the app a few minutes early. Business etiquette
Be punctual. Offer and receive business cards with both hands and read them before putting them away. First meetings are polite and a little formal; use titles and surnames until invited otherwise.
