To stay longer in Singapore, apply online to ICA, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, to extend your Short-Term Visit Pass once it has 14 days or less remaining. Walk-in applications are not accepted. You can generally ask for up to 30 days from your date of entry, or up to 89 days if you have immediate family who are Singapore citizens or permanent residents. ICA aims to decide within five working days; until then, plan to leave by your pass’s current expiry date.

Your permitted stay is not set by your visa or your air ticket but by the e-Pass emailed to you when you entered. Check its last day first; everything else follows from it.

First, check your current pass

Your Short-Term Visit Pass is the e-Pass emailed to you on arrival, to the address you gave on the SG Arrival Card. It shows the last day you may stay. If you cannot find the email, ICA’s e-Pass Enquiry portal and visit pass validity tool will show it.

How to apply

1. Wait until your pass has 14 days or less remaining.
2. Apply through ICA’s online e-Service for extending a Short-Term Visit Pass. There is no counter to visit.
3. Give your reason for staying longer. ICA considers your circumstances and whether you have immediate family who are Singapore citizens or permanent residents.
4. If you are asking for up to 89 days, arrange a local sponsor, as ICA requires.
5. Pay any fee shown on approval, by card or other listed method, and keep the email.

If the outcome has not arrived by your expiry date, ICA’s advice is to depart on or before that date.

What a visit pass does not allow

A Short-Term Visit Pass is for tourism, social visits and medical treatment. You may not take up any employment, paid or unpaid, or run a business during your stay, unless you hold a work pass or are doing an activity MOM exempts. Business travellers should read our business travel guide.
