Jewel Changi is free to enter, and its best two sights cost nothing: the 40-metre Rain Vortex, the world’s tallest indoor waterfall, and the Shiseido Forest Valley around it. The waterfall runs from 10am to 10pm, with light and music shows after dark. Only the Canopy Park on the top floor is ticketed, from about S$6.
Jewel sits on the public side of Changi Airport, linked to Terminal 1 and by walkways to Terminals 2 and 3. That makes it the easiest sightseeing in Singapore for anyone arriving or leaving, and the one most visitors fit in almost by accident. Plan it on purpose and it becomes one of the highlights of the trip.

The free part: the Rain Vortex and Forest Valley
The Rain Vortex falls 40 metres from an opening in the glass roof into a basin five storeys below. Stand at the basement level for the roar, or on the upper floors for the view down. The Shiseido Forest Valley climbs the terraces around it, with walking trails among the trees.
After dark, the waterfall becomes a screen for a light and music show. Timings vary by night, so check the screens near the waterfall. For the best view without the crowd, watch from the upper levels rather than the basement railings.
The paid part: the Canopy Park
The Canopy Park on the top floor is a garden playground: topiary, misting bowls, slides and flower gardens in the basic ticket, from about S$6. The hedge maze costs S$13.90 for a standard adult ticket, including park entry, and the mirror maze, Canopy Bridge and suspended nets are extra again.
For families with children under twelve, it is excellent value. For adults on their own, the free waterfall is the main event; buy the Canopy Bridge only if you want the view straight down the Vortex.
Fitting Jewel around a flight
Arriving: walk to Jewel after immigration, before you head into the city. An hour is enough for the free sights.
Leaving: go three to four hours before your flight, see Jewel, then walk to your terminal to check in. Leave three hours for the airport itself; Changi Airport Departures explains the timing.
